Nessebur is a great mix of ancient and modern. With a population of just 10,000 people, Nessebar is situated on a small peninsula about 36 kilometres northeast of Burgas and some 430 kilometres to the east of Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital. Located along the Black Sea coast, the beach in Nessebur is regarded as being one of the best. What makes the coast more picturesque are the astonishing dunes, while the green coppices along the sandy strips are responsible for gusts of cool air during hot and sultry days.
Nessebar was founded during the time of Thracian fishermen who made a settlement called Menabryai. It has the biggest number of churches per capita and is one of the most preferred resorts now a days.
The town is witnessing a new wave of construction with buildings such as new houses, rest homes, hotels and restoration of old buildings.
