With over a thousand year old history, Sandanski is situated on either sides of the Banska Bistritza River. Known to be blessed by sacred, most ancient healers, the town has been a hub of revolution and gets its name from a Bulgarian revolutionary and freedom fighter - Janne Sandanski.
The town has a railway station, and is a station while on the way from Sofia to Blagoevgrad. Sandanski also has a museum, which preserves the monuments of Thracian material and intellectual culture, as well as Greek and Roman cultures. However, the most famous thing about this town is its mineral springs. Eight spas situated in the town are witness to the popularity and healing powers of the springs, which have temperatures varying from 33C to 83C.
