Blagoevgrad
is a town in
southwestern
Bulgaria, situated
by the south-western
slopes of the
stunningly beautiful
Rila mountain.
It occupies
both banks of
Blagoevgradska
Bistritsa River
and has a population
of over 70,000,
making Blagoevgrad
one of the largest
towns in South-Western
Bulgaria. It
was named in
1950 after the
founder of the
Bulgarian Communist
Party, Dimitar
Blagoev.
