Chiprovtsi is a town in Montana Province of northwestern Bulgaria, on the shores of the river Ogosta and based at the foot of the beautiful Western Stara Planina mountain range.
The St. John of Rila monastery in Chiprovtsi dates back to the 10th century A.D. The name Chiprovtsi comes from the Roman name of copper – kuprum.
