There
are several
architectural
ensembles preserved
dating back
to the Bulgarian
National Revival
period, including
more than 100
old houses.
Wall-to-wall
construction
forms interesting
street silhouettes.
The houses have
stone basements
with white-washed
or wooden walls
of the upper
floor with protruding
bays above.
The local cuisine
includes a dish
called Elenski
but, a traditional
local cured
ham, this is
a popular delicacy
throughout Bulgaria.
Elena is a charming
rural small
town withing
easy access
of Veliko Tarnovo
by car.
To
the south-west
of Elena is
located the
winter ski-resort
of Pamporovo
and Bansko,
two of Bulgaria´s
finest.
