The town of Gabrovo is situated along the two banks of the Yantra river, at the northern foot of the Central Balkan mountains, in the valley of the Yantra River, and is known as an international capital of humour and satire, as well as noted for its Bulgarian National Revival architecture. Gabrovo is located right in the center of Bulgaria. Gabrovo is close to Veliko Tarnovo, the ancient capital of Bulgaria.

Travelling south-west from Gabrovo you find the winter ski resorts of Bansko and Pamporovo. World class skiing with Bansko fast becoming one of the most popular ski locations in Europe, rivalling the Pyreseese and the Alpes and a winter destination. Chepelare, a town near Pamporovo has one of the longest ski run in Bulgaria.
