The property is set at the edge of a very beautiful and peaceful village in a region with so many attractions that visitors will need lots of days to see only part of them. The village is advantageously positioned just 40 km from Rousse which, Bernard Newman decided, ‘belongs to Europe and not to the Balkans’. Rousse’s promenade down the main boulevard is one of the liveliest in Bulgaria, and the pavement cafes compare favourably with Sofia’s. The Music Weeks in March attract some of the best classical ensembles, soloists and conductors in Europe; opera, a symphonic orchestra and a theatre can be enjoyed in other times. However, if they are not your scene, there’s always cafe-life or the sights. Before you reach Rousse, the gorges of the Rusenski Lom River hold three sets of medieval Bulgarian ruins: the Rock Monastery of Ivanovo, the Rock Monastery of Besarbovo, and the Medieval Fortress of Cherven.
