This beautiful new house (built 2004) is set at the edge of a very beautiful and peaceful village just 17 km from Ruse which, Bernard Newman decided, ‘belongs to Europe and not to the Balkans’. Rousse’s promenade down the main boulevard is one of the liveliest in Bulgaria, and the pavement cafes compare favourably with Sofia’s. The Music Weeks in March attract some of the best classical ensembles, soloists and conductors in Europe; opera, a symphonic orchestra and a theatre can be enjoyed in other times.
