The Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, located 120 Km south of the capital Sofia , in the north-western Rila Mountains. The Rila Monastery is in the deep valley of the Rilska River, at 1,150 meters above sea level. Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is one of Bulgaria's most important monuments standing today. Surrounded by the beautiful Rila Mountain range.
